Products We Use for Weed Treatment

  • Pre-Emergent Applications—All of our lawns are treated with industry-leading pre-emergent applications designed to prevent weeds from germinating and taking root. The products we use are applied at key agronomic stages to prevent weeds before they become a problem.
  • Broad Spectrum Weed Elimination – During the year, WinLAWN uses 3 or 4 leading broad-spectrum weed control products to eliminate weeds.
  • Selective Weed Killers – Grassy weeds such as nutsedge, crabgrass, and some broadleaf weeds require selective herbicides that target and eliminate them. We are experts at dealing with these one-off invaders that elude or have grown immune to broad-spectrum weed control products.

Commonly Asked Questions About Our Weed Control Service

Can you stop the purple flowers (Henbit) and white clumps (Poa Annua) in the winter?

Yes, we stop these winter invaders by applying a critical round of pre-emergent in the fall. Many homeowners think weeds stop growing in the winter, but in Georgia, weeds like Henbit, Chickweed, and Poa Annua (Annual Bluegrass) germinate in October and November. Our fall treatments block these seeds so your dormant Bermuda or Zoysia stays clean and uniform all winter long.

Do we require you to sign a long-term contract?

Absolutely not. We believe we should earn your business with every single visit. We offer contract-free service, meaning you can pause or cancel your plan at any time. Our goal is to provide such a high level of value that you'll never want to leave, but we’ll never trap you in a legal agreement to keep you.

Do you need to be home when we service your property?

No, you don't need to adjust your schedule for us. We’ll service your lawn, leave a detailed digital report of what we did, and ensure your gate is locked before we head out. You’ll get a notification when the job is done so you can keep on with your day.

Do you use pre-emergent or post-emergent weed killers?

We use a combination of both to provide year-round protection. Our pre-emergent treatments create a vapor barrier in the soil that prevents weed seeds (like crabgrass) from ever germinating. Our post-emergent treatments target the weeds that have already sprouted. By using both, we stop future invaders while cleaning up the ones currently in your lawn.

How can I prevent weeds from taking over my lawn?

The best way to prevent weeds from taking over your lawn is to keep it healthy. Make sure you mow regularly, water deeply and infrequently, and fertilize your grass with the right type of fertilizer for your type of grass. Additionally, using a pre-emergent herbicide in the spring and fall can help to keep weed seeds from germinating.

How do you bill for the weed control service?

We bill you per treatment, which means you only pay after we have successfully serviced your lawn. We don't believe in charging you for a full year upfront. After each visit, our technician will leave a digital service report and your invoice. This keeps us accountable to you for every single visit—if we don't provide results, you aren't locked in.

How do you get rid of that bright green grass growing in clumps (Nutsedge)?

We treat Nutsedge with specialized selective herbicides that target the "nutlets" beneath the soil. Nutsedge is a sedge, not a grass, so standard weed killers won't touch it. It thrives in the heat and humidity of July and August. Because it grows from underground tubers, we emphasize professional treatment over hand-pulling, which often triggers the plant to spread even faster.

Is the weed treatment safe for my family and pets?

Yes, our treatments are safe once the liquid application has completely dried. We use EPA-registered products and follow strict application guidelines. We simply ask that you stay off the lawn for 1 to 2 hours after our visit. Once the spray has bonded to the leaf blade and dried, it is no longer "transferable," making it perfectly safe for your kids and pets to get back to playing.

Do I need multiple weed control treatments?

Yes. Weeds grow in cycles, so a single treatment will almost never be enough to eliminate weeds for good. We recommend a season-long weed control program for ongoing prevention and management.

How long does it take to see results from weed treatments?

You may see visible results within 7–14 days of treatment, but some stubborn weeds may require follow-up applications. Regular treatments throughout the season ensure the best long-term results.

What else can I do to prevent weeds?

A healthy, thick lawn is your best defense against weeds. Regular mowing, watering, and fertilization—combined with professional weed control—can drastically reduce weed growth over time.

What types of weeds do you treat?

We target a wide variety of common lawn weeds, including dandelions, crabgrass, clover, nutsedge, and broadleaf weeds. Our technicians are trained to identify and treat both warm- and cool-season weeds specific to your region.

Will the weeds come back?

Weed seeds can remain dormant in your soil, and new ones can blow in from surrounding areas. That’s why ongoing treatments and proper lawn maintenance (like mowing and fertilization) are key to keeping weeds under control.

What makes our weed control program different from DIY products?

We use professional-grade, "locally tweaked" formulas that are specifically timed for North Georgia’s climate. Most store-bought products are generic, whereas our plan uses a rotation of 3 to 4 leading broad-spectrum and selective herbicides throughout the year. We don't just spray the same thing every visit; we adjust our tank mix every 45 days to target the specific weeds that are germinating in the current soil temperature of the Atlanta area.

Why is Crabgrass so difficult to control in North Metro Atlanta?

Crabgrass is an "opportunistic" weed that thrives in the thin spots of your lawn and the heat of our red clay. Once it sprouts, it is very difficult to kill without damaging your desirable grass. That’s why we focus on two heavy rounds of pre-emergent in the late winter—we want to kill the crabgrass before you ever see it. If any do break through in late summer, our technicians use selective post-emergents to spot-treat the area.

Will the weeds disappear immediately after the first visit?

While you will see many weeds begin to curl and yellow within 10–14 days, a truly weed-free lawn takes a full seasonal cycle. If your lawn has been neglected, there is a massive "seed bank" in your soil waiting to sprout. Our first few visits focus on knocking down the current weeds, but the real magic happens over 6–12 months as our pre-emergent barrier becomes established and your grass thickens up.

I made the switch from another lawn service to WinLAWN in the summer of 2017. WinLAWN was able to fight off the fungus issues my lawn had all summer. After two treatments my lawn was healthy and green again. I will be getting my referral this year from my neighbors switching this year to WinLAWN. Thanks again WinLAWN!
